13th January 2013

Well here it is people, with a tear in our eye, we are finally writing our last blog.  It is Sunday, we have been to church, we have eaten left over Chinese ( yummy), we have remade beds, packed the car and we are on the road again.  This time we are going home.

Wow, as I write this, the memories are flooding back and it has been amazing however, there is still one more stop to make..... to the giant ram!  We have been to the big rams on both sides of the country now- COOL.   We are now ready to go and we crank up Willie Nelson as we set off.

The paddocks and the farms and the towns are all familiar and it is nice to know where you are going.  We wouldn't have changed the timing, the places we went to or the places we missed... We have done and seen a lot.  We did it together - the Wheaties.

So at about 5pm-ish we arrived home and backed Milly into the driveway.  We are home.

What a journey.......... we have been safe from fires (accidents), and our Patsy and Millie have held together.

So thank you for coming along with us.

We give thanks to Almighty God for everything.

Tomorrow we go and get our cat and our family will be complete. Thanks again God.

Happy Anniversary to us - 11 years today!!

11 Years ago at Bassendean Church of Christ we were married and now we have two children and have travelled across Australia WOOHOO!!!!  We have been very blessed.

So going back to our journey, we are here in Wagin, a wheatbelt country town about  2.5 - 3 hours to Perth.  It has a giant ram, lakes and a heritage walk and museum.  For more information see the following website: http://www.wagintouristinfo.com.au/ .   However the most exciting thing here for us is Naomi's mum, not to mention hot showers, plenty of beds and good food.

We woke quite early and we started the watering.  We are still inspired by the vegie patches and this time we could not believe our eyes with the biggest pumkin patch you have ever seen!  Naomi was looking under all the leaves to see where the pumpkin was hiding but alas couldn't find it!  Only when she was watering one of the fruit trees (on the other side), that there, coming out of the grapevine fence was a great big pumpkin growing happily and another one close by...

It was a good time to relax, do some washing and basically start to stop.  There is nothing like being on the road and having an adventure and the time was coming to end the adventure.  Staying with mum was a warm up to getting home.

We went to Creswell's, where you never know what kind of treat/goody you can buy.  James ended up with 2 hats (to cover his neck and face) and Naomi has already started her Christmas for this year by getting some discounted serviettes.

Later that evening we went out to Chinese and had a celebratory dinner for our anniversary.  We had a lovely time and off to bed we went.

Good night.

P.S. - Travelers Tip:

Dont bother to wave to other passing motorists when it is dark, they can't see you!

11th Jan 2013

After a overnight in another roadside park 60km NW of Norseman, we arrived in Kalgoorlie to find the Engel not yet fixed, so we had to spend a little time in Kal waiting for it. The kids enjoyed the wait :)
When we picked up the Engel it seemed to be dirtier than when we left it....probably just Kalgoorlie red dust. Anyways we thanked the refrigeration people and we set out on the road again, and  made tracks for Bruce Rock, where we arrived for a late lunch/tea at 5:30 and bought the biggest 4 burgers ever seen. Obviously too large for the kids, I had to finish off Ben's and Sarah only made a small dent in hers.

We then hit the road again for Wagin to spend some time with Naomi's Mum.

Those dark foreboding skies seem to be following us...

Skies clear at Bruce Rock

Ben shows interest in the old farm equipment.

The sun goes down on the wheat-belt and the Wheaties!
Tomorrow is our 11th Wedding anniversary and it will be really nice to spend it somewhere familiar.

Feels like our Journey is coming to an end, but what a trip we have had. We have been blessed with no mechanical failures at all(besides the Engel)and the Patrol has been a fantastic work-horse dragging our heavy Millard almost 10,000km without complaint, we never even came close to hitting any animals on the road even-though we saw, kangaroos, wallaby's, rabbits, emus, camels, dingos, sheep, cattle, eagles, wombats, echidna's, snakes, donkeys, hawks, crows magpies, possible dead koala, foxes, one thorny devil, one hopping mouse and splenty of  truckies :)

10th Jan 2013

Sorry for the delay - we have been in and out of range for the last few days and driving quite long hours.  So blogging has not been on the agenda.  So let's start the story...We had stopped for the night 7 kms out of Border Village.  It is quite windy along the edge here, as we are still on the Great Australian Bite, there were two other caravans in the rest stop, but we slotted in nicely.  We awoke to a fabulous morning, we can hear and see cars on the highway, bustling past, already on their journeys.  It doesn't take us too long anymore to get moving and while James is cooking up breakfast ( eggs on toast),  Naomi walks to the view point to take in a long look at the ocean and beach/cliff front.  It is amazing, the ocean is huge and blue, carrying wave upon wave to the shore, the waves aren't too big, but you know that deep out into the sea, there are mysteries no-one has ever seen.

At the rest stop.

On the way to the view, the ocean is mesmerizing, it helps with a good vantage point too.

View looking east with the sun rising up. You can slightly see the headland fading in the top.

So now we are all in and I have an amazing tale to tell before we head to the pictures below.  It all begins on the start of our journey ( well even in preparation..)  we bought sandals for the kids, not thongs ( as toes begin to get sore..) and they each had a pair, until the border.....  Ben was jumping back into the car (after taking happy snaps of crossing our first state!) and he would slip off his thongs before jumping over into the back seat.  Well, as it turned out, his sandal had slipped out of the door and onto the gravel, as it was nowhere to be seen after we needed them at out next spot...Oh well, live and learn..

Well here  it comes......a good bit....just wait...you may have already guessed but let me keep going....A s we have been traveling we have also been geocaching and finding the boxes hidden along the Nullabor.  So we are good lookers this Wheat family ( in  of course!) and we decide to have a look for Ben's lost sandal, 3 weeks later, just in case.... Who knows??.... well we do...look at the next two pictures.  The picture tells the rest of the story quite well and captures the miracle nicely....

Amazing find for the whole trip!!  WE couldn't believe it.

Geocaching in pyjamas.

Geocache at Eucla.

On the road again - we have been passed by many road trains. We are fantastic at staying on the edge!

The geocache is in the stump in the background.

Writing in the book to say we found it.
Great Driving weather.  A little cloudy.

These are Sarah's feet hanging out the window getting a little bit of the rain.

Jame's feet needed a good wash.

That's about how much it rained on the way to Norseman.

You know what this means...we are on the way home!

We were about to overtake this caravan but he pulled over.

Another geocache hidden underneath the bark.

What you can find in the box.  You can take something but you must leave something.

Putting it back.

It's not all "Black tracking".

It is wonderful country out there and we are blessed to see it and be here in Oz.

Victorian driver who was driving erratically in front of us.  He later did a drive-off at the Norseman Servo witnessed by James.
We had the most excellent showers at Norseman ( for a small fee) which revitalised us and a yummy meal there.  It was worth it and if you ever go to the BP Norseman have the chicken parmesian - yummo! The Aboriginal lady who served us there was terrific and Sarah thought she reminded her of aunty Joy...  aaawww.    It was also my chance to buy the "I've crossed the Nullabor" sticker and put it onto the caravan.  That felt so good!

Traveler's tip:  when having a shower, teach your kids about different kinds of light switches.  Sarah had a push in timer light ( she had forgotten about Aunty Erin's one)  and so half way through her shower, the light went out.  So.....In order not to be afraid, she started singing really loudly all the Sunday school songs she could remember ( darling...)   It traveled all the way through the corridors!  Naomi had to stop her shower to make sure that it was nothing serious.

We then made our way to the next rest stop, fresh and full.

Tomorrow we pick up our fridge - hopefully it is fixed!!
